Delta Air Lines to sell two Atlanta facilities

Delta Air Lines has announced that they will be selling two facilities in Atlanta. This decision comes for two reasons: to cut costs for the company and to keep the operations centered in one area.

They will selling Atlanta Reliability Center sometime this summer. They will be also be selling the building that was used as the Delta Technology Building because the program folded two years ago. The Atlanta-based Delta, will also be selling the former headquarters of a subsidiary, Comair.

This includes a building in Cincinnati and one in Minneapolis-St. Paul. After Delta acquired Northwest Airlines, which was based out of Minnesota, they have multiple operations set up there. In order to consolidate, they also will be moving their flight attendant training center and pilot training center from Minnesota to Atlanta.

Atlanta police crack down on graffiti in the city

Atlanta police have announced that they will be cracking down on the amount of graffiti in the area.

The Atlanta police chief said that the graffiti in the area is endangering the property values of private and public buildings in the area. He also stated that the graffiti sends a message to criminals that they do not care about the community.

A task force has been created to help curb the offense. The chief also stated that he understands the importance of artistic expression, but said that is should be done in the appropriate areas.

Eight-year-old rapper compared to Justin Bieber

An 8-year-old rapper from Atlanta has been compared to Justin Bieber as the ‘next big thing.’ He just turned eight last week but has already been a YouTube sensation with millions of views on his videos.

The young rapper is from Gwinnett County, Ga. and has become popular by taking famous songs and creating his own raps to them. MattyB is now training at Jan Smith’s studios for voice lessons.

Other famous singers have trained with her including Justin Bieber and Usher. MattyB has already met some of his idols, such as Ryan Seacrest, but mother has stated that her son is too young to start recording or touring at this time.

Atlanta airport at standstill after storm

The airport in Atlanta, one of the world’s busiest, came to a near standstill when a snow storm hit the area.

Delta Airlines Inc., the second largest airline in traffic numbers, reported that only eight of their flights were be flown out an hour. At this time of year, Delta usually has about 950 flights out daily from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

AirTran cancelled all of their flights in and out of the airport today. AirTran usually has about 200 flights are day fly out of Atlanta. A spokesman for the airport has said that there are “not many flights going in or out.”

Plane involved in crash to be shipped to Georgia for investigation

A twin-engine plane that was involved in a crash after taking off from the Palm Beach International Airport is now being shipped to Georgia in order to be investigated.

The crash occurred last week and killed a flight instructor and two students. One passenger on the plane was transported to the hospital after the accident, but he was later pronounced dead. According to officials, the accident occurred as they were in the middle of a training exercise when the plane went down and for unknown reasons and exploded.

One of the passengers did report problems with the engine, but no distress call was made. This aircraft, a Piper PA-44 Seminole, has made several trips to the Bahamas and made it to PBIA from the islands before the crash. The crash occurred after the customs check and refueling around 6 p.m.

Rapper Gucci Mane arrested in Atlanta

According to reports, rapper Gucci Man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly committing multiple traffic violations.

Reports also state that police officials were forced to use pepper spray on the man because he was involved in a dispute when they arrived. The incident began when an off-duty police officer allegedly saw the rapper’s vehicle driving the wrong way down the roadway. Police officers found him when he was fighting the unidentified man.

According to the spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department, Gucci Mane was charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, running a red light, no license, no proof of insurance,  and damage to government property. He was held in jail until he posted a $2,500 bond.

Atlanta police charge bus driver after leaving child on bus

Atlanta police have filed charges against a bus driver after allegedly forgetting a 5-year-old child on the bus.

The day care bus driver is currently out on bail from Fulton County Jail, but he has been charged with reckless conduct. A woman found the little child walk off the bus around 7 p.m., nearly an hour after the bus had been parked in the lot.

The bus driver picked up the child from Angels Paradise day care, but forgot to drop him back off at home. The man parked the bus outside of his home and went inside, the neighbor then informed the man that he had left a child on the bus.

An employee from the day care has told officials that the man is not employed by Angels Paradise because he is an independent contractor.

Atlanta offers many food events for the weekend

This weekend in the Atlanta area, there are many food events that are a great outing for the whole family.

Inman Park Restaurant Week and Hunger Month has been going on all this week and will continue through the weekend on Sept. 26. The events offer three-course meals at restaurants such as The Albert, Fritti, and Krog Bar. The proceeds from this event will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s monthly dinner.

On September 24, the Celebrity Chef Tour will be hosting an event that will be benefiting the James Beard Foundation. Each person will be able to sample the food that is being prepared by two celebrity chefs and tickets can be purchased for $130.

On Saturday Sept. 25, there will be an Ugly Bridesmaid Dress Bar Crawl in Midtown Atlanta and is hosted by Deadwood Salon.

Flight makes emergency landing in Atlanta

Officials announced that a Delta Airlines plane had to make an emergency landing in Atlanta while on its way to Oregon.

The plane was en route to Portland when the pilot realized that the plane had blown a tire during take off at 11:30 a.m. The pilot then turned around when the problem was noticed and landed in Atlanta at 3 p.m.

The plane had 160 passengers and 6 crew members. The Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman reported that there were no injuries and all passengers were rescheduled for different flights to Portland.
